PANGARAP ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
IT’S BRIEF HISTORY AND CURRENT SITUATION
Pangarap Elementary School, with 91 teachers, its School Head and 1 non-teaching personnel, has 40 instructional classrooms and 3 non-instructional classrooms, ancillary service rooms like the library, ICT, feeding area and clinic. It has 82 classes, from morning and afternoon shifts. The present enrollment is 3,485 with pupil’s seat ratio of 1:45.
At present, there isa land dispute between Carmel Homes Development Incorporated and the residents of Pangarap resulting to the Supreme Court’s order ofstatus quo being the existing state. Construction materials were prohibited entry at the main gate and public conveyances like jeepneys, private vehicles, and businesses involving the transport of commercial goods were banned from entering the main roads which hamper business transactions and delay and hardships on the part of employees working in and outside of Pangarap.
Due to this situation, PES experienced remarkable number of dropped-outs with 3.23% in 2014-2015 and a survival rate of 86%.
This dispute heightened when in May 2015, electricity was widely cut-off in Pangarap. The school inevitably suffered a loss of .92% dropped-out rate and a survival rate of 83.49% onlyin 2015-2016. Most residents renting transferred to different schools due to electricity. Poverty, financial incapacity, family problems, lack of interest and for convenience were also some of the notable reasons.
But despite all these challenges in the community, the school overcame them through the efforts of Dr. Edna B. Balajadia. Right away, she didn’t allow this electricity loss to discourage her from helping the learners to have a better classroom experience. Thus, she and Pangarap High School Head requested financial assistance from the local government for the maintenance of the generator set which supplies electricity to both the elementary and high school.
With the above situations that were beyond the control of the administrator, Dr. Balajadia managed to continue to implement the programs and projects anchored to the K-12 Curriculum.
The school is basically anchored in attaining SDO’s objectives which focus on improving the academic achievement of learners.
First, the school is conducive to teaching-learning because of its geographic location, wherein it is built in the heart of the village, surrounded by fruit bearing trees and trees good for lumber and far from noise and pollution.
Second, the School Head and the teachers work hand in hand and are interdependent on one another in executing their duties and responsibilities for quality results in teaching and learning. With the yearly implementation of INSET for teachers (midyear and summer), both the SH and teachers established rapport to upgrade each expertise in effective teaching aside from having the teachers to attend K-12 Curriculum trainings every summer.
Third, teachers trained under the K-12 Curriculum, are equipped with the knowledge and skills to teach it effectively and eventually made pupils adapt to the changing needs of times under the lifelong education which the K-12 Curriculum strongly advocated.
Lastly, with the effort of the SH and the teachers, cordial relationships with its stakeholders, the GPTA, LGU’s, and NGO’s (Save the Children), (Kasagana Development), (Red Cross of the Philppines) and the private sectors were established. They contributed a lot to the improvement of the school through their involvement.
In light of Pangarap Elementary School’s strengths, challenges and opportunities, its School Head, Dr. Edna B. Balajadia, its teachers and all its stakeholders ardently strive to realign the school’s goals, objectives and purposes with the existing educational trends and changes of the Department of Education and channel and expedite its resources to the most basic needs in the school for the welfare of the learners. This scenario can be best implemented and carried out with a plan detailing how and what the end results will be years from now. To get there, Dr. Edna B. Balajadia initiated this plan and motivated and inspired her teachers to contribute to the plan which is now called the Enhanced School Improvement Plan (ESIP).
The late Councilman Ceferino B. Balbaboco who is the father of Dr. Edna B. Balajadia had contributed to the construction of the Marcos Type and Army Type buildings in the early 1974. These buildings stood still to the present. Unfortunately, some buildings were destroyed by fire in early 1993 including the principal’s office, school library and Home Economics building, property room and a classroom.
April 17, 2015 marked the beginning of a new administration in Pangarap Elementary School. Dr. Balajadia’s vision as an administrator is to produce pupils who are academically and technologically competitive and skillful learners by fully implementing programs and projects that are anchored to the DepED’s Mission and Vision.
Despite the current situations of the school, the School Head was not hindered to realize the vision and mission that was mandated to her by the department. Instead she continued making great improvements in the school.
As the School Head, Dr. Balajadia made several physical changes early on. In 2015 -2017, improvements in school were made like
-
Re-alignment of electrical wires, repairs of electrical outlets at MB Asistio Building;
-
Repair of school’s stage which posed danger to pupils before;
-
Repair of Faculty’s Comfort Room; and
-
Additional repair of the school’s feeding area and H.E. room;
Pupils basically benefitted from these improvements because better facilities make the school even more conducive to learning.
The next school year, 2016-2017, was a more blessed year for the pupils. Bigger and costly improvements were realized. Improvements such as:
Replacement of dilapidated roofs, ceilings, doors and windows and electrical wires of the three rooms in DPWH Building;
Repainting of the Administration Building at MB Asistio Bldg;
The school ground and path walk to the school’s main and Narra gates were cemented, the school covered court and stage were improved with plant boxes and benches, through the effort of the GPTA Officers lead by their President, Kagawad Bernardo B. Quiboy, and other stakeholders through solicitation, were now fully enjoyed by the pupils.
Construction of the extension of feeding area between H.E. Room and Canteen;
Additional Washing Area were Constructed through the help of
Improvement of the ICT Room;
Repair of Comfort Rooms for Boys.
Three years of unquestionable commitment to her duties and responsibilities as a School Head and a great passion for change best describe Dr. Balajadia’s work ethics. We look forward to another school year with her to lead and guide us in reaching our mission and vision.
